چکیده
1 of 2 DESCRIPTION A 39-year-old man presented with sudden back pain and admitted. The contrast-enhanced CT showed the development of acute aortic dissection (AD) with patent false lumen. The dissection extended from just distal at the left subclavian artery to bilateral common iliac artery. The patient was treated with intensive blood pressure (BP) control with antihypertensive drugs, however he represented back pain after 31 days, and the follow-up CT scan revealed new blood fl ow entry in thrombosed false lumen and dilatation of descending aorta from 48 to 55 mm ( fi gure 1 ). Two years before this admission, he had been evaluated for secondary hypertension and underwent sleep polygraphic study, which revealed severe obstructive sleep Images in...

Acute aortic dissection is a common disease caused by primary tear in the aortic intima or rupture of vasa vasorum. Every year 5-30 per million are affected by that. Untreated aortic dissection (dissecting aortic aneurysm) carries a high mortality rate. More than 90% of acute dissections present with acute pain in chest or back or both. Aortic dissection may mimic other more common conditions...
متن کاملThe impact of obstructive sleep apnoea on the aorta.
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) has been shown to be a causal factor in the pathogenesis of vascular dysfunction and hypertension, conditions which can promote dilation and subsequent aortic dissection and rupture. The objective of this review is to summarise the current literature on the possible association between OSA and aortic disease and delineate the underlying mechanisms.Relevant studies...
متن کاملAcute Type A Dissection and Acute Inferior MI Complicating Aortic Coarctation: A Case Report
Aortic coarctation is a rare but dangerous condition. Presence of aortic dissection in addition to coarctation is significantly rarer and more life-threatening. Here, we present a case of acute inferior MI due to aortic dissection complicating a native aortic coarctation. A 17-year-old boy was admitted to our emergency department due to severe chest pain and loss of consciousness. His ele...
متن کاملThe prevalence of obstructive sleep apnoea and its association with aortic dilatation in Marfan's syndrome.
BACKGROUND Craniofacial abnormalities and increased pharyngeal collapsibility due to abnormal connective tissue suggest the possibility of an increased prevalence of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) in patients with Marfan's syndrome but the actual prevalence is uncertain. Aortic dilatation and dissection are life threatening manifestations of Marfan's syndrome and case reports have suggested a p...
متن کاملTherapeutic efficacy of continuous positive airway pressure in obstructive sleep apnea patients with acute aortic dissection: a case report.
The coexistence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) may impose an additional risk on aortic dissection due to the possible increase in aortic transmural pressure. Thus, effective treatment for OSA, such as noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV), is thought to decrease the risk in patients with aortic dissection. We experienced one case of an OSA patient with aortic dissection who was suc...
